Robert Julius Garrett (AKA, Butch), a former long time resident of Caretta, West Virginia, departed this life on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 in the McDowell Nursing Center in Gary, West Virginia. He was born in Welch, West Virginia, on the 13th day of January in 1952 into the loving parentage of Willie Mae and Clyde Garrett Sr. After completing his education at Big Creek High School, he began working in the coal mines at Olga Coal Company. Robert will be remembered for his strong spirit, being a sharp dresser, and sportsmanship, as he was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Mae and Clyde Sr., and each of his brothers: Ernest, Clyde Jr., and Larry. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Tracy Garrett of Charlotte, North Carolina and his granddaughter, Chyna Jackson; his devoted, loving sister, Emma J. Garrett Francisco of Landover, Maryland; his aunt, Alice Lucas and one uncle, Robert and his wife, Cleo Lucas; his nieces and nephews: Cherell, Derek, Jamal, Birdena, Larry Jr., Mario and Letreace; a host of other relatives and a special caregiver, Rita Orey; his McDowell Nursing Center and Welch Elkhorn Towers neighbors and friends. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia, with the Reverend George Masterson officiating.
