Robert E. "Robbie/Unk" Sawyers

Robert E. "Robbie/Unk" Sawyers age 63 of Welch, WV departed this life on Saturday, December 31, 2022 in Princeton Community Hospital.  He was born in Welch, WV and the son of Harold L. Sr. and Martha M. (Brogdon) Sawyers.  Robbie was a 1980 High School Graduate.  Before moving to Alabama, he had attended Miracle Mt. Carmel Church in Kimball, WV and (the former) Smith Memorial Church in Welch.  After returning to Welch, and in most recent years, he was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Welch.  For a number of years, he was employed at the Council of Southern Mountains in Welch.  Robbie had a kind, caring spirit; especially for the Elderly.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Harold Sr., his oldest sister,  Mary E. (Tommy) Parker and his oldest brother, Harold L."Sue" Sawyers Jr.  He is survived by one daughter, Aretha Staples and granddaughter, Aniya Staples of Welch; his devoted siblings:  Gladys (Anthony Sr., deceased) Simpson of New York, Carolyn (Willie, deceased) Cook of Concord, NC, Ida Louise Sawyers of Cleveland, OH, Warren A. (Verlene) Sawyers Sr., of Charlotte, NC, Deborah A. (Wayne) Morris of Charleston, WV, The Rev. George (Betsy) Sawyers of Winston-Salem, NC, The Rev. Samuel (Yvonne) Sawyers of Charlotte, Darrell Sawyers of Columbus, OH and Richard "Ricky" (Niecy) Sawyers of Princeton, West Virginia; a host of special nephews and nieces; several generations of cousins, many neighbors and friends.  A Memorial Service is being planned at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
