Obituary

On Saturday, September 24, 2022 God called His Servant, Sister Rosetta Valentine to rest.  She had lived the greater part of her life in Welch, West Virginia and passed away at the Stone Rise of Princeton Nursing Facility in Princeton, West Virginia.  She was born on the 14th day of June, 1937 and the daughter of Bill Collier and Ruth Hamlin Collier Curry who resided in Marytown, West Virginia.  After completing High School, she became a Homemaker and had worked at Urps' Metal Company in Davy, West Virginia for several years.  She was a long time member and served as a treasurer at the (former) Mt. Grove Baptist Church and frequently attended the (former) Emanuel Tabernacle Church both in Hemphill, West Virginia.  Sister Rosetta loved the Lord, reading her Bible and generously used her gift of singing to minister whenever called upon.  She enjoyed watching television ministers, the westerns and listening to Gospel music.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her step father, Ollie Curry and her husband, Oscar Lee Valentine Sr.,  three sons:  Marvin, Ronald and William; her siblings:  Anna Ruth, Bobby, Buddy, James and John.  Rosetta was the last surviving member of the original Collier family.  She will be remembered for her kind, sweet spirit and beautiful smile by all who knew her.  She will be greatly missed by her children:  Oscar Jr., Shirley Harris, Elaine Welch, Victoria Jones and James Valentine all of Welch, Darlene Saunders and Octavia Edwards both of Bluefield, West Virginia;  her siblings:  Bessie Curry and Martha Butler both of Glen White, West Virginia, Janie Yancey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jim Curry of Beckley, West Virginia and Billy Curry of Charleston, West Virginia and a host of grand, great and great-great-grandchildren; several generations of nephews, nieces and cousins; other relatives and the many friends whom she loved and loved her.  Sister Valentine's Homegoing Celebration Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 30, 2022 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church 315 Court Street in Welch, with the Reverend George Masterson officiating, assisted by the Reverends Edwin Ogburn and William R. Spencer.  Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M.  Her Family will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
