Ms. Rosie Leaner Greenwood age 73, resided in Welch, West Virginia; formerly of Kimball, West Virginia, departed this life on Sunday, January 12, 2025 in Henrico Doctors' - Forest Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
Rosie was born in Capels, West Virginia on the 5th day of May, 1951 and the daughter of James A. Greenwood Sr. and Minister Mattie L. Austin Greeenwood Manns. She had lived the greater part of her life in Hemphill, West Virginia and was a graduate of Welch High School.
Rosie was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking and barbecuing. She joined Royal Kingdom Ministries in Capels, where she had faithfully served as Mother of the Church and was over the Kitchen Committee. She was a Senior at the Commission on Aging in Welch and always looked forward to their activities, crafts and meetings. Among her many pastimes, which included; working seek and find puzzles and playing cards, her most favorite was when she learned to relax and lounge during the day in her "pjs." She was known for her many inspirational posts on her face book page and was a very skilled driver, even beyond her years. She was a homebody, but enjoyed her trips to Maryland, to visit her brother, Richard and his wife, Patricia.
In addition to her parents, James Sr. and Minister Mattie, Rosie was preceded in death by her stepfather, Henry Manns; her siblings: Virginia M. Hairston, Laura M. (Paul) Booker, James A. (Ruth) Greenwood Jr., Katie B. (Robert) Griffin and Richard Greenwood. She was the last surviving member of her original family.
Rosie will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her son, Michael J. Ely of Hemphill and her daughter, Lafayta "Fay" and her husband, Randy Johnson of Wilcoe, West Virginia; her seven "heart beats," grandchildren: De'Jah Huff, Jevon Ely, Amiyah Johnson, Cayden Wyrick, Alexis Hood, T'ziah Ward and Davian Clendenin; her special sister and caregiver, Laura "Vanessa" Greenwood of Welch; she will be greatly missed by her nephews, nieces and her special nephew, William "Peewee" Caldwell, whom she regarded as her son; her special friends: Debra (Jerome) Newsome, Stephan Evans, Margaret Johnson, Brenda Farmer, Jannette McCain and her sister-in-law, Patricia Greenwood; her neighbors and friends. Ms. Rosie L. Greenwood's Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Royal Kingdom Ministries 31 Shannon Branch Road in Capels, West Virginia, with Pastor Constance Evans officiating, assisted by: Pastor Stephon Smith, Elder Bernice Thomas and Deacon Michael Evans. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon, until the time of Service. Interment 12:00 noon, on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
