Samuel Cannaday Obituary

Early on Saturday, May 3, 2025, Samuel Thomas Cannaday Jr., age 84 of Wilcoe, West Virginia; formerly of Welch, West Virginia departed this life in Princeton, West Virginia, following illness. 

Born on the fourth day of January, 1941 in Wilcoe, and the son of the Reverend Samuel T. Sr. and Bernice (Mason) Cannaday.   He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wilcoe and a Veteran of the United States Army. 

Sam or Sam Jr., as he was known was a 1958 graduate of Gary District High School and graduated in 1966 from Bluefield State College.  He continued graduate classes at the West Virginia School of Graduate Studies.  

For a number of years, he was employed and retired from the McDowell County Board of Education in Welch, after teaching at several Schools in the County.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and five of his siblings:  Eleanor, Joan, Joel, Marilyn and Maurice Cannaday.  

Survived by one daughter, Toni Robinson; his brother, Richard and wife, Brenda Cannaday of Georgia and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. 

Arrangements for Mr. Cannaday were entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
