Mrs. Vennie Louise Edwards Ward was born on July 1, 1925 to the late Joseph Thomas and Nora Lee Edwards in Premier, West Virginia, and departed this life on February 3, 2025 in Bluefield, West Virginia.
Her most favorite things to do, and not in that order included: cleaning house, cooking, singing, reading her Bible and praying "Boy did she pray."
Vennie fought a good fight, and finished her course. She was a long time member of the True House of Prayer in Roderfield, West Virginia. Upon its closing, she became a member and served as Mother of Havaco Temple Baptist Church in Havaco, West Virginia under the Pastoralship of Reverend Kenneth Orr. She served as an Honorary Mother of the Father's House Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James E. Ward and three of her sons: Raymond, David and Robert Ward; three grandsons, three brothers and three of her sisters. Also, her longtime, best friend, Emma Hampton.
"And her children arise up and call her blessed." Vennie leaves to cherish her loving memory, two daughters, Rosie (Lloyd) Hill of Charleston, West Virginia and Lydia (Warren) Parham of Frederick, Maryland; two sons, James (Ninette) Ward of Roderfield, West Virginia and Darrell L. Ward and his long time companion, Wilma Clements of Bluefield, West Virginia with whom she had made her home; one brother, Garnet Edwards Sr., of Havaco, West Virginia and one sister, Betty Johnson of Thorpe, West Virginia; 28 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. A host of nephews, nieces and friends, which includes; a special friend of the family, Tim Johnson of Kentucky whom she regarded as her son.
Mrs. Ward's Homegoing Celebration Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Ark of Safety Church 13193 Coal Heritage Road in Roderfield, West Virginia with Pastor Kenneth L. Orr eulogist, assisted by Pastors Lloyd Hill and George Masterson. Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia. Mrs. Ward's grandsons and granddaughters will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, until the time of Service. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, West Virginia.
