Wilfred D. Simon Obituary

Wilfred D. "Dexter" Simon, age 70, who resided at 109 Suthers Street in Bluefield, VA and departed this life on Thursday, November 26, 2020 in Princeton Community Hospital was born December 2, 1949 in Welch, WV.  He was the only son of Alice L. Kelly Thomas of Bluefield, WV and the late  Ben Simon.  He grew up in Wilcoe, WV and was a 1968 graduate of Gary High School. Dexter had attended Bluefield State College and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.  For a number of years, he was employed by N&W Railroad and later retired as a truck driver for a local company.  He was a faithful, devoted member and an Usher at First  A.M.E. Zion Church in Bluefield, WV and served wherever needed.  He enjoyed sports and listening to music.  In addition to his father Ben, Dexter was preceded in death, October 25, 2020 by his wife of 33 years, Christine A. Harris Simon.  Dexter will be lovingly remembered by his devoted mother, Alice; his son, Dexter Simon and two grandsons, Dexter and Tylee all of Bluefield, WV; his special sister, Pat Simon Washington of  Wilcoe and two additional sisters, Brenda Simon of New York and Juanicia Valentine of Temple Hills, MD; two special nieces, Benita H. Bennett, (who was born on his Birthday,) and Cicely Younger and a special great-nephew, Exzekiel Bennett all of Bluefield, WV; uncle, Earl (Carolyn) Simon of Lenoir, NC and three aunts:  Lillian Garner of Baltimore, MD, Cora Marie Scales of Gary, WV and Marian Montgomery of New York; step-mom, Marvelene Simon of Bluefield, WV; two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law and their families; several generations of cousins, other relatives; Church family and many friends.  Dexter's Celebration of Life Service will begin at 12:15 p.m., and a Revolving Visitation will be held at 12:00 noon, on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Grandview Memory Gardens' Mausoleum Chapel, 38659 Gov. G.C. Peery Highway in Bluefield, VA, with his Pastor, the Reverend Justina Young officiating.  Interment will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens where military rites will be conducted.  Family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, WV, (to leave online condolences:  gregory-pagefh.com.)  Social distancing and the wearing of masks will be observed.
